6-Year-Old Girl Denied Passport Because She’s Named After ‘Game Of Thrones’ Character

A 6-year-old girl has been denied a passport because of her unique name which her parents got from a Game of Thrones character.

The UK mother was left heartbroken and “absolutely devastated” after her daughters passport application was denied due to her being named after a TV character.

Lucy told the BBC:

“I was absolutely devastated, we were so looking forward to our first holiday together,”

The family were planning a fun-filled trip to Disneyland Paris – a “dream’ vacation when she was informed that her child would not be accepted for a passport.

“I had a letter come through from the Passport Office, saying her name is trademarked by Warner Brothers,” she said. “It was the first I’ve heard of such a thing — I was astonished.”

Lucy decided to get legal advice, and after discovering that she was in fact allowed to use the name, the 39-year-old sent that information off to the Passport Office.

“I didn’t understand and felt frustrated. If she could get a birth certificate, would something not have been flagged up then?”

“I never thought you could trademark a name,”

The Passport officials then called the mother to apologize for their error.

The name in question? Khaleesi, of course.

“If I hadn’t posted this on social media, nothing would have been done. I would have been stuck, not knowing what to do,” she said, adding that others had reached out and admitted they’d experienced something similar.

“I am hoping the passport will be issued soon and was promised that they would call back in a few days to see if it had progressed,” she told the outlet.

“I think there might be other people in this situation, that they may have had their passports declined recently because of something like this. Hopefully, they now know it can be resolved,” she said.
