Sounds of ɑrguing and screɑming: Witness recalls the H0RRIFIC moments leading up to the tr-ɑgedy that left Melonie McKay, 53, strυck by a neighbour’s car in her own driveway in Melbourne

‘I don’t know what to do. I don’t know how to feel.’

A Melbourne grandmother has been killed after she was allegedly run down in her own driveway during an altercation with her neighbour.

Melonie McKay, 53, died just metres from her front door on Friday in Seston St in Reservoir about 7:40pm on Saturday, after what police say began as a heated altercation and escalated into a fatal confrontation.

Her son, Trent Ottrey, told 7NEWS the family is struggling to comprehend the loss.

“I don’t know what to do. I don’t know how to feel. I had a cry with my younger sister.”

Police allege neighbour Luke Rainey, 44, deliberately struck Melonie with his car after an argument broke out in the shared driveway.

A shopping trolley was reportedly thrown at the vehicle moments before the situation “erupted” into “screaming and violence”, a neighbour told 7NEWS.

Paramedics were unable to revive the grandmother.

Ottrey said his mother had endured hardship but was devoted to her family.

“She grew up hard, so we grew up hard. We went through a fair bit, but she was good to the grandkids,” Ottrey said.

In a statement, Melonie’s sister said the family was overwhelmed.

“The conflicting emotions we feel — grief, anger, confusion — are overwhelming. To lose her this way is something we will never fully come to terms with,” the statement said.

Rainey faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court via video link on Saturday, charged with murder.

He told the court he has full‑time care of two children but did not apply for bail.

A GoFundMe page has been launched to help cover funeral costs.

“Two of us are homeless and my mum’s dead — it’s hard,” Ottrey said.
