A Mid-South woman is battling for her life after a shootout in Northeast Memphis.
“Just be aware of where you are and where you at. Memphis is a dangerous city,” said the victim’s cousin.
A night out turned into a nightmare. 23-year-old Jessica Miranda was sitting inside her car outside Tequila Town Bar on North White Station Road when a stray bullet ripped through her window and hit her last Sunday.
“I don’t know if I should cry if I should stay still. I was just in shock. My mind went blank. Nothing like this has ever happened to my family,” said the victim’s cousin.
Jessica’s cousin did not want to reveal her identity.
Memphis Police said 27-year-old Jose Montoya and his wife, 26-year-old Judith Ramirez, were charged after firing shots at a security guard who escorted them out of the restaurant for acting irate.
Investigators said the shootout was between Montoya and the guard, but the 23-year-old was caught in the crossfire and shot in the back of the head.
“Nobody knew this was going to happen. If Jessica knew, she wouldn’t have been there. It was the wrong place, time,” said the victim’s cousin.
Jessica’s cousin describes her as smart, full of joy, and a constant inspiration to everyone who knows her.
It’s been a week since that senseless shooting changed Jessica’s life, but for her family, every minute feels like forever as they wait patiently for a miracle. “The fact that she survived shows how much she is willing to fight for her life and not give up. Push through, you got this. God is with you.” said the victim’s cousin.
The family needs your help during this difficult time and started a GoFundMe to help cover medical costs.
