Norman Reedus and Helena Christensen’s Son Mingus, 25, Arrested and Charged for Alleged Assault in N.Y.C.

Mingus Reedus, the son of Norman Reedus and Helena Christensen, is facing legal trouble for alleged assault.

The model, 25, was arrested in New York City near 16th Street and 8th Avenue at approximately 8:40 a.m. local time on Saturday, Aug. 23, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) confirmed to PEOPLE. 

He has since been charged with criminal obstruction of breathing and assault, according to the NYPD.

When authorities arrived at the scene, the NYPD said they “observed a 33-year-old female with minor injuries to [her] neck and leg.”

“EMS responded and transported the victim to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition,” the police organization added.

Mingus was taken into custody, and an investigation remains ongoing, per the statement from the NYPD.

Representatives for Mingus did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Aug. 23.

Mingus was previously arrested in September 2021 for allegedly assaulting a 24-year-old woman during the San Gennaro festival in New York City. 

At the time, the woman — whose identity was not shared publicly — said Mingus punched her in the face following a verbal confrontation.

Police reported that she was injured below her left eye, and the woman was taken to New York’s Downtown Hospital, where she was in stable condition.

After the incident, Mingus alleged to The New York Daily News that the woman and her friends came after him and his friends during the festival. Mingus ultimately accepted a plea deal in March 2022 for the lesser charge of disorderly conduct.

In a prior statement to PEOPLE, Mingus’ attorney, Isabelle Kirshner, called the 2021 charges “baseless.” She added that Mingus “was the victim in this incident.”

Mingus was born to dad Norman and Helena, both 56, in 1999. The former couple met through a mutual friend in 1998 and dated for five years before splitting in 2003.
