Southport Killer Axel Rudakubana Under Investigation for Alleged Prison Attack

Axel Rudakubana, the 18-year-old convicted of a brutal triple child murder in Southport, is under police investigation following an alleged assault on a prison officer at HMP Belmarsh. The incident reportedly occurred on May 8, 2025, when Rudakubana allegedly poured boiling water over a staff member after heating it with a kettle in his cell. The officer was hospitalized briefly and is expected to return to duty soon.

Rudakubana is serving a life sentence with a minimum term of 52 years for the 2024 attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport, where he killed three young girls and attempted to murder several others. He was also found guilty of producing ricin and possessing terrorist materials.

The alleged prison assault has intensified scrutiny over the management of high-risk inmates. Critics have questioned why Rudakubana’s supervision was reduced shortly before the incident, allowing him access to potentially dangerous items like a kettle. The Prison Officers’ Association has called for the implementation of “super-max” security measures, including 23-hour lockdowns and restricted access to personal items, to protect staff from violent offenders.

This incident underscores the challenges in balancing inmate rights with the safety of prison personnel. As investigations continue, there is growing pressure on authorities to reassess protocols for managing individuals deemed extremely dangerous.
