A major city has been gripped by the concern of a potential serial killer after 38 bodies were pulled from Lady Bird Lake.
38 bodies have been pulled from the lake in Austin, Texas since 2022 with the most recent potentially being that of a teenage paddleboarder that was found around 7am near Riverside Drive and South Lamar.
Authorities shared that the person who found the body called 911 to report it near the Butler Hike and Bike Trail.
No ID has been confirmed yet, but police claim the body was likely that of a teenage boy that went missing on Sunday – he had been paddleboarding with his family when he got out his kayak without a lifejacket.
They believe he stood near an underwater shelf – where there was a sudden drop in the lake that he didn’t notice and sadly did not resurface.
His kayak was later found with his lifejacket on board, untouched.
Police shared: “Another paddleboarder was here out on Lady Bird Lake and notified us that it appeared that an individual was deceased and floating on Lady Bird Lake,”.
At least 38 people have died on the lake since 2022, causing speculation that a serial killer may be at large in the city.
30 of the victims were male and around 60% were aged between 30 and 49.
The causes of death have been mostly drownings with some being considered suicides and drug overdoses – with only one death being labelled a murder. Around 12 are unknown causes.
