Green Day Change Famous ‘American Idiot’ Lyric To Diss Donald Trump

Green Day changed the lyrics to their hit song ‘American Idiot’ to diss president Donald Trump.

It’s that time of year again when our timelines are full of celeb content from Coachella.

This year, acts like Lady Gaga, Charli XCX and Post Malone have been taking the stage and wowing fans with their performances.

On 12 April, Green Day performed on the main stage for weekend one of the music festival. They of course, performed one of their most popular songs, ‘American Idiot’ – however, the band decided to use this opportunity on the world’s stage to change some of the lyrics.

This would not be the first time the rock band has called out Trump and his politics while on stage.

The original line, which reads: ‘I’m not a part of a redneck agenda’ was changed to: “I’m not part of the MAGA agenda.”

Rolling Stone wrote in their review of the bands performance that there ‘were no political overtures or lengthy speeches’. Instead, Green Day’s messages ‘are embedded into the music already.’

They also shared comment on the Israel-Gaza conflict by changing lyrics to the song ‘Jesus of Suburbia’.

The original line reads:  ‘Runnin’ away from pain when you’ve been victimised’, while frontman Billie Joe Armstrong sang: “Runnin’ away from pain like the kids from Palestine/Tales from another broken home.”

The same song that Green Day recently changed to take aim at VP JD Vance.

At their Melbourne show in March, they decided to change the lyric ‘Am I r***ded or am I just overjoyed’ to the damming: “Am I r***ded or am I just JD Vance?”.

During that same show, Armstrong asked the audience: Don’t you want politicians to shut the f**k up? Don’t you want Elon Musk to shut the f**k up? Don’t you want Donald Trump to shut the f**k up?”

Earlier this year, while playing in South Africa, Elon Musk’s birth place, they changed the lyrics of ‘American Idiot’ to “I’m not part of the Elon agenda.”
