More people are coming out as Almondsexual – here’s what it means

Almondsexuality is one of the newest microlabels to emerge from online LGBTQIA+ spaces, coined in 2023 by a Tumblr user searching for more precise language. It describes people who primarily feel attraction toward male-aligned and androgynous genders, with only occasional or weaker attraction toward female-aligned genders. In other words, it’s not “just bisexual” to those who claim it; it’s a way to map the intensity and direction of their desire more honestly.

For many, these labels are lifelines, tiny words that finally mirror a complicated inner reality. For others, they’re proof the world is spinning too fast, that identity has become fragmented beyond recognition. Yet behind the debates and eye-rolls are real people trying to make sense of themselves in a culture that once offered them no words at all. Whether almondsexual resonates or not, the conversation it sparks is a sign of how desperately we still crave to be understood.
